Week 5 Forms.
Th ability to create forms in a webpage is the equivalent of making the Internet transform from a medium of communication two medium of conversation. Think of social media and its ability for us to communicate with one another and how that interaction is enabled by forms and JavaScript. This week's lesson is on the fundamentals of creating forms on web pages and linking actions to those forms. The ability for only forms to manage database management, e-commerce and as stated social media has transformed the internet into our primary means of interfacing with the global world.
Hi Joshua, I believe that you are correct in saying that the ability to interact through the use of forms has transformed how people communicate. Forms allow for developers to formulate quick feedback from users. They are important to the web because they allow for people to have a voice. Some prefer the use of forms as a way of reaching out and not"really" having to speak thoughts directly. This is very helpful because it allows people to become more comfortable with expressing themselves. Forms really have caused a transformation in today's communication methods. Good luck this week!
ReplyDeleteOne of the things that forms have led to is anonymity on the internet. While anonymity allows people to express views that are hard to do so otherwise it also allows for them to degrad others. In the link below Ashley Judd touchs on the cruelty that anonymity enables.

The use of forms allow for directed feedback when implemented properly for a website's specific purpose. This is known as information control because forms are designed to capture exact information. Forms are useful because they enable communication in a way that is quick and easy to use. For example, rather than to call and wait on hold for support, I could visit a website and submit a form that allows for me to receive support at a less busier time or have a representative call me when available. In my original post, I mentioned that forms allow people to communicate without having to speak thoughts directly. Although some forms may allow it, this was neither against nor in support of the ability to remain nameless. All forms are provided on websites for specific purposes. I took the liberty of watching the TED talk by Ashley Judd. In it she speaks of gender inequality and the cruelty that SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS enable. She shares some of the terrible comments she has gotten from people, who were not anonymous, and decided to do something about it to inflict change. She demonstrates that the laws needed to change regarding crimes being committed, even when they occur anonymously. She encourages lawmakers to adopt to the standards of current technology enabling the prosecution of crimes committed not just by telephone, in mail, or by telegraph. Again when forms are correctly implemented with directed response they will achieve the results desired. Forms are quite different from social media which allows feedback on an open platform. I encourage all to listen again.

Another point would be what controls should be implemented. We have a right to say pointed/mean/hateful things and not be prosecuted for them. While free speech is not protected from entities outside of government. I.E Facebook and control and edited content, block users and use algorithms to control dissemination. It still asks the question should our speech however it takes form be edited. In the U.K. 7 people are arrested a day for speech violations. Some are hateful people and some are just on a loosing side of the argument.

I think the discovery of "forms" revolutionized website development. The ability to host websites and upload information that can be accessed globally was already a huge accomplishment but the introduction of "forms" became a game changer. Forms enabled feedback from site visitors across the world and it wasn't before long eCommerce emerged enabling secure transactions over the web and the world has never been the same ever since.
ReplyDeleteTo add on what has been said, what made forms revolutionary is that it allowed people to do what they have done in real life without actually being in the same place. An example to demonstrate what I mean is, say you are at a fast-food chain. You ask for food, provide payment, and then your name. When your order is done, your name is called and you receive the food. On the internet, forms allow you to save your data and you can purchase what you want and have it delivered to you without having to physically show up to said location. Its one of many ways that made the web so powerful.
