Week 3 - Go big with your website

The advice for attracting user traffic to your website is endless, from search engine optimization to enriching media. The idea of breaking the 7 second rule in websites is a central focus for many.  This task of getting this much desired user interaction where a user stay and comes back is a bottom line item fro nearly every website in the world wide web. I think Facebook has achieved this like no one else has though simple, easy and enriching interfaces. The lack of advertising was a major factor in attracting users in the first iterations of the website. However you cannot deny that the compatibility and stability of the websites, both front end and back end coding has been instrumental in its success. As it should be to most users, this unnoticeable but key feature is critical to making Facebook the major site it is today.

  1. Joshua, Facebook is a good example of a site that can dive user visits. To your point, the content is constantly changing, so it keeps user interest. Unlike MySpace at the time, it also has a consistent look across of of its users profile. They allowed some degree of personalization, but unlike MySpace they kept it from changing the the feel of each page. This makes every profile feel "normal" and consistent for the browsing user.

  2. Hi Josh,

I agree with both you and Andrew about how facebook and its constant changing and personalization that allow Facebook to constantly keep people on the site. I know when I go on it I lose easily ten minutes every time with what people post, comments and replying. I want to say our websites should be taken personal to us as this is our design, our creativity.

  3. Ian and Andrew are both right in that social media sites can attract many to your own site. In fact Social Media can get the attention of viewers/customers for just about anything. We do live in a very social media saturated society after all. I have even seen in the research of my job that this method is good for letting gamers know about games you want to market. Much like getting famous YouTube gamers/let's players to play your game or game demo to inform thousands to millions of your upcoming game and potentially even get them excited for your game. In fact we even have social crowd-funding sites like Patreon and Kickstarter to help inform people of our upcoming projects while simultaneously earning money from backers who want to buy your product or service.
